Mustangs Seniors split with Academy

22 Mar 2017

The Doncaster Mustangs senior team have today announced a split with the Doncaster Mustangs Academy.

The junior team has represented Doncaster in previous years at both the 14-17 and 16-19 age groups, but after a gradual breakdown in the relationship, the management and coaches of the senior side decided there was no further option but to sever all ties.

Having been in existence since 2002, the Mustangs & Balby Carr Academy came to an agreement to let the school use the Mustangs name and logo for their junior set up in 2010. The intended flow of players has never transpired and after a tumultuous 2016 campaign which saw relationships hit an all time low, this decision has been announced prior to the start of the 2017 campaign to allow both set ups to go their own way.

A gentleman’s agreement had been in place regarding the use of the Mustangs name and logo, and despite a request from the senior side in September, for the juniors to change this, as yet, we have been unable to reach an agreement.

Despite numerous attempts to get BAFA to intervene, they have been of little help during this off season in this matter, and we are sorry that this episode may reflect negatively on our wonderful game.
